Privacy policy

ZoneShift is a server-rendered reference site. It does not require an account, and it does not run any third-party analytics or tracking scripts in the page templates we ship. Your visit is logged at the web-server level for the same operational reasons as any other website (basic request logs to debug performance and abuse), but those logs are not used to build a profile of you and are not shared with third parties.

What we store

We store the contents of the dataset itself — cities, countries, IANA time zones, populations — and that's it. There is no user account database. There is no history of which converter pairs you looked at. The only personal information we ever hold is the email you choose to send us if you write to us at the address on the contact page; we keep those messages so we can reply to them.

If we ever add a feature that needs user accounts, we will introduce a separate, narrowly-scoped privacy notice for that feature and we will not retroactively apply it to anyone who used the site before. The current site is, by design, a thin layer of HTML over a static dataset; this is the simplest kind of website to operate privately.

Cookies, ads and third parties

ZoneShift does not set any first-party cookies on your browser. The HTML templates contain comment placeholders for advertising slots (you can see them in the page source as <!-- ADSENSE_HEADER --> and similar). If we ever activate those slots with a real ad network, we will document it here and add a clear consent flow before any third-party scripts are loaded. Until then, no ads, trackers or third-party requests are made from the page.

Time-zone data is computed locally on the server using PHP's bundled IANA database. We do not call out to any third-party API on a page render, so visiting ZoneShift does not leak the city or comparison you are looking at to any other service.

Your rights

Because we do not hold a user record for you, there is essentially no personal data for you to request access to or to ask us to delete. If you have written to us via the contact page and would like that correspondence deleted, drop us a line and we will erase it from our inbox.
